Tujuh Kiat Destinasi Ramai Peminat, Nomor Satu Jangan Remehkan Wisatawan Domestik

There are at least seven proposals to revitalize (preserve and develop) the tourist attractions of the city, region or province, so that they continue to attract tourists from diverse origins, both local and foreign.

The following seven tips are based on recent observations by Travel Plus Indonesia.

The first piece of advice is to understand and pay attention to the "Sapta Persona", which includes seven elements of good tourism: safety, order, cleanliness, freshness, beauty, friendliness and the ability to remain in the memory.

Why Sapta Pesona? Because no matter how beautiful, interesting, or unique a tourist destination may be, whether natural, man-made, or cultural, if it is not promoted, Sapta Pesona will gradually disappear and could be abandoned by tourists.

The description of the seven elements of "Sapta Persona" aims to create security so that tourists feel safe during their visit, prioritize comfort in every tourist activity so that it runs smoothly, and create a clean environment so that tourists feel comfortable and healthy.

In addition, a pleasant atmosphere should be created so that tourists feel at home for a long time (as if they were in their own home); visual beauty should be created and maintained to attract tourists; kindness towards each tourist should be prioritized in terms of hospitality (community, owners, tourism workers) (genuine smiles, willingness to help/support, etc.), and memorable experiences should be created for tourists so that they want to return or at least feel proud to tell others about their positive experiences and images of their trips.

A distinctive feature is the existence of lasting friendships with tourists from different backgrounds, whether they are local tourists (wislok), i.e., tourists from one province (also called local tourists or wislok), tourists from other provinces but living in the same country (generally called Nusantara tourists or wisnus), foreign tourists (wisman) or foreign tourists from different countries.

We always welcome all types of travelers, from those on a budget to the most discerning. We also welcome solo travelers , small groups , and large organized groups.

Don't be too arrogant/too proud/don't prioritize/don't put foreign tourists first, and vice versa, don't underestimate wisdom/don't despise it/don't ignore it/don't put them second.

Don't idealize the dollar or underestimate the rupee. Also, avoid racist or nepotistic biases. If these occur, tourists might choose other destinations.

In fact, all arriving tourists should be treated the same way, that is, attended to/helped/accompanied/advised in a kind, honest, cordial and prompt manner.

The second piece of advice is to avoid doing things that harm tourists, such as treating them as easy prey for profit, such as raising prices (ngemplang), whether in the sale of food/souvenirs/handicrafts, accommodation rates, transportation costs, entrance fees, other prices, or aggressive sales tactics.

If people commit such negative acts, immediate punishments should be applied and the best solution should be found to prevent something like this from happening again.

The third piece of advice is to understand the general nature of tourists, particularly their susceptibility to boredom. If the attractions or tourist sites they visit are always the same, they'll probably only return once. But if they find something new, different, interesting, or innovative, they're more likely to want to come back. Therefore, it's important to be creative when it comes to bringing each tourist attraction to life.

The fourth tip refers to meeting the needs of tourists, specifically the availability of public transport to reach the destination's tourist attractions, the availability of different types of accommodation, from simple lodgings to star-rated hotels, and affordability (it is obvious that tourists prefer places where there is transport, accommodation, tour packages, tickets, food, souvenirs and other services available).

Made with 3S and 3A materials.
The next point, or fifth, is the understanding and application of the three main elements of tourist destination development, which are generally reduced to the 3S: things to see (sights such as natural beauty, etc.), things to do (activities in which tourists can participate, such as guided tours, excursions , water sports , etc.) and things to buy (souvenirs/products/handicrafts or local products that tourists can purchase as souvenirs or gifts).

The sixth tip is to understand and apply the 3A concept (attraction, accessibility and services) when developing tourist destinations .

For tourist destinations, this goal can be achieved by consistently organizing a variety of engaging events, such as festivals, concerts, artistic and cultural performances, and other initiatives on-site. Regarding accessibility, this can be accomplished by offering diverse public transportation options, such as comfortable, air-conditioned buses connecting the city center with tourist destinations, with daily departures from morning until night and varying return times.

Services and facilities include a variety of accommodations, from hostels to upscale hotels. Key amenities include prayer rooms/mosques, restrooms, parking, a cafeteria, a gift shop, an ATM, currency exchange , free Wi-Fi, a medical center, and a tour desk.

The seventh and final tip is to develop digital skills and effectively present the benefits and positive aspects of tourism to the public, whether through various social media platforms or by collaborating with journalists or content creators (videographers) specializing in the tourism sector. For example, new accommodations, new transportation options, new restaurants, tourist activity programs, affordable tour packages, attractive promotional offers for tourists, and so on should be announced in advance.

On the other hand, it is necessary to quickly control or contain negative news that could damage the positive image of a tourist attraction or the entire tourist destination.

Ultimately, regardless of the efforts made to follow the seven recommendations above, the goal is for every visiting citizen and foreign tourist to feel comfortable, impressed and surprised, as if they were at home, satisfied and eager to return.
